Tasmania, known for it's green wilderness and cooler climate, could be the perfect weekend getaway for runners. We take a look at some events to attend while you're there!
The Selection Criteria - For most of us, a trip to beautiful Tassie means hopping on a plane (from $40) or even a boat (from $69).
This means you'll probably want to make a mini holiday out of it and take your family or your running crew.
With this in mind, we've selected the biggest and best running events in Tasmania which cater for a good range of distances to suit everyone in your party.
In no particular order...
This is the big one in Tassie. The courses are flat, fast and... Start and finish at the iconic CHOCOLATE FACTORY!
With plenty of distances to choose from including a 1km for kids, it's a great opportunity to get the whole family involved.
Being in January, it's a good option if you fancy a marathon in the middle of summer. The average temperature for Tasmania at that time of year is low 20s so a fair bit cooler than the rest of Australia!

A relatively young event, The Launceston Marathon is only in it's second year but is already growing in popularity and looks set to cement itself as a staple in the Launceston running scene.
It's a flat, flowing course away from traffic and there's no cutoffs so it's super accessible for those looking to take on a new distance.
Expect plenty of crisp Tassie spring air as you take in the trails of Heritage Forest and the river foreshore.

This one's a little bit different as it's a trail run and as the name suggests, it's most definitely a festival!
You can celebrate everything you love about trail running by picking your favourite distance or you can really get in to the party with more than one event over the weekend.
There's even a "Multiday Ultra Madness" package which gets you entry into a whole host of events, racking up over 100km in three days.
There are both B&B and camping options nearby but you'll want to book early.
This event promises "fern-fringed landscapes that will blow your mind and sweeping routes that will blow your legs."
If you love the trails, you need to mark this one in your calendar!
