We are bidding goodbye to 2020 with grateful hearts despite its challenges. And today we share Shannon Murran’s journey of overcoming setbacks and starting anew, with hope of sending out positive energy to those most in need, as we all embark on new beginnings in 2021.
Here is Shannon’s story.
“My Calisthenics journey began at the age of 4. My mum put me into it wanting me to learn how to work in a team as well as building my confidence, co ordination, flexibility and doing exercise. She also liked the fact I could perform on stage in a range of different dances.
After injuring my hamstring and groin when I was about 13, it really put a stop to things and I gave up. To this day I regret my decision and now I try to install in my kids that they should never give up!
At the age of 28 after deciding to put my daughter into Calisthenics, I took it up again. Not only am I a performer but now I coach too. It was the best decision I made. I’ve made lots of new friendships and have won lots of medals, the best medal being at the Pan Pacific Masters Games on the Gold Coast.
Now at 39 It’s great to know that your never too old to enjoy doing this sport. I may not be as flexible as I used to be but it’s something I enjoy and I get to share it with my daughter, nieces and now my sister who after 25 years has now started back up again.
If you are passionate and enjoy something no matter what age just get out and do it!!”
