Medals of The Month

At the start of each year, we like to make plans and set lofty goals around what we'll achieve in the next twelve months.

In 2020, a huge corona shaped spanner was thrown in the works and runners all around the world were asked "just how much do you want it?"

It quickly became evident that the racing calendar was to be thrown in the bin for a year and it would have been very easy to throw out any plans and goals along with it.

For Bonnie Maule, this month's winner of Medals of the Month, by changing tactics slightly she was able to still turn 2020 into a very successful running year!

Here is her story...

My name is Bonnie and I’ve been running for 2 years! I started on Australia Day 2019 by joining my local running club to learn to run.

The motivation I received from my club inspired me to continue running after finishing the learn to run group.

2019 was my “practice year” with the hope of doing as many real events in 2020 outside of my club, which of course didn’t happen with Victoria’s lockdowns.

I decided to complete virtual runs throughout 2020 and with the help of my club and my running buddy, completed many many virtual runs of all different distances throughout the whole year.

Throughout the whole process I lost 20kg, gain the ability to run non-stop for 10-15km and made many friends for life.

The plan now is to complete many live events in 2021 and to complete my first half marathon later in the year.
