This month we're stoked to share Melanie's story. Her journey has been absolutely incredible and here's what she had to say:
"My name is Melanie and driven by wanting to get healthy & active in late 2017, I started getting into walking, plus some weights & strength work, but was still struggling to walk 5km non stop. The start of 2018 I started to increase my walking / jogging intervals.
I did my first parkrun (5km) in June 2018 with friends & family. I had friends encouraging me to try it out for ages but I had resisted as I didn’t want to embarrass myself. I never expected to enjoy it so much, but I love it - catching up with friends, the routine & encouragement.
Since then I have done many events, building up the distances - 77 parkruns, stadium stomp (5,000 stairs), 7km, 10km, 14km, 15km, 4 x 21.1km (half marathon) & 1 x 42.2km (full marathon). That was my first and so far only marathon and the longest distance I have done.
I remember my first real big event was a half marathon in March 2019. I was beyond terrified, never thought I could ever achieve something like that & it’s still one of my proudest achievements to date. I have since done another three half marathons & one full marathon.
Still can’t believe I have gone from 5km in June 2018 to a marathon in September 2019. So proud. 38 years old & doing her first marathon. From not being able to walk 5km continuous at the end of 2017, less than two years later I was marathoner!
I workout most days - walking, intervals or strength training and I love having events booked to look forward to / train for. I love medal displays because I’m so proud of what I’ve achieved and each medal represents something special to me."
Our mission is to help celebrate wins and inspire many more, by hanging medals properly.
