We are charging into the new year with another story of an absolute gun!
Daniel Velardo, DJ, marathoner and accredited coach has graciously shared his journey with us.
“I started running by training with a friend who was preparing for an ironman. I was his training partner on the run legs and took a liking to this part of the program.
Running a marathon was always on my bucket list and in 2014 I signed up for Melbourne Marathon. I completed it in 3:09 and loved the feeling of crossing the finish line. I had plenty of energy left in the tank and knew I could go faster.
After crossing the line and experiencing that amazing rush, as well as being so proud of the achievement I had accomplished, I wanted it again. So, I decided that I would attempt to run a sub 3-hour marathon.
In 2015 I completed the Melbourne Marathon in 2:59:10 and was overwhelmed and so delighted with my achievement. I became addicted to running and wanted to learn everything I could to get as fast as possible.
I started listening to podcasts, reading books, articles and acquiring as much knowledge on running as I could get my hands on. In 2019 I hired a coach, Sean Williams, and have attained my Level 2 Running Coaching Accreditation through Athletics Australia.
I have completed 9 marathons to date, including the Gold Coast Marathon, Great Ocean Road Marathon, Canberra Marathon and Melbourne Marathon. My PB currently stands at 2:47:33.
I decided to purchase a medal display to show my accomplishments. It brings great joy looking at the medals – a testament to my hard work and dedicated training. It’s such a great catalyst for inspiration and motivation. It encourages me to keep working hard and to strive for more.
