This month we feature the amazing Trent Alley who proves that age doesn’t matter but it is will power that will take you places. His mom, Krystal Alley, shares his inspiring journey with us.
“Trent Alley at just 8 years of age knows the value of hard work, commitment, and determination in achieving success. He’s a talented soccer player, a super swimmer, a keen nipper and a speedy runner!
His display of medals are a tally of a wide variety of sports but he is very passionate about Little Athletics. Trent recently competed at the NSW Regional Little Athletics championships where hundreds of kids gathered from 3 different zones trying to grab top spots! Trent’s achievements were gold in the 800m, silver in the 200m and gold in the 60m hurdles. The gold in the 60m hurdles wasn’t an easy feat! There is an amazing story behind his gold medal to ‘never give up’.
It was early Saturday morning. When the race started, Trent sprinted forward, focused on getting to that finish line first and was out in front of the pack! Then something totally unforeseen happened: he tripped over completely at the third hurdle and fell to the ground! After a short moment of despair, and before anyone could say anything, he was back up and finished the race. He didn’t lay there after he tripped and he didn’t get up and jog to the finish line feeling sorry for himself...he sprinted as though nothing happened and gave it his all! Trent then incredibly still qualified out of all the children and heats in 8th (last position) for the finals. He had a second chance!
There was no way this would have been possible without the quick reaction after falling and his strength and focus on still finishing that race. The finals were in an hours time and Trent couldn’t be more ready. When the gun fired he was off like a rocket and hurdled perfectly! He not only won the gold medal but also broke the regional record in a time of 10.90 seconds! The pure joy on his face and the tears in the eyes of his family and friends were priceless!
The moral to the story is never give up, there are no limits to success and once you are passionate about your dream, nothing can stop you. No matter where you look, you will find victories – even in losses, down times and in disappointments.
Sport teaches you so much about yourself and the world around you. It helps you develop good character, values and habits early on in life. I hope Trent’s story motivates you for success in sports and in life! It’s proof that strength comes from within and it conquers any obstacle, pain, loss and of course hurdle! And most importantly to ‘never give up, shoot for the stars’!”
Our mission is to help celebrate wins and inspire many more, by hanging medals properly.
